Award of Excellence 2017
Château Arton, the first Armagnac to receive the Prix d'Excellence
Château Arton wins the Prix d’Excellence in the “Eaux-de-vie” category at the Concours Général Agricole organized by the Ministry of Agriculture in 2017.
The Ministry of Agriculture thus honors those who participate in the renown of France’s gastronomic heritage, highlighting their talent to innovate while perpetuating a unique craft know-how and preserving the uniqueness of a terroir. The Excellence Award recognizes those who practice their profession with passion.
It is the first time that this prize is awarded to an Armagnac!
It is for us the recognition of our work in the vineyard and in the cellars, but also the resurrection of the confidential region of Haut-Armagnac. It consecrates the wonderful rebirth of this appellation and pays tribute to a History: that of Gascony.
What is the Prix d'Excellence?
The Concours Général Agricole has been organized every year for more than 150 years by the Ministry of Agriculture to promote gastronomic excellence and culinary know-how in our country, thus encouraging the richness and diversity of tastes. It rewards the best products of the French terroir which are awarded gold, silver or bronze medals. More than 22,000 products compete each year, each in its own agricultural category (wines, cheeses, oysters, oils… and of course brandies).
The competition, whose impartiality is guaranteed by the French government, is judged by professionals and committed consumers – in a formal blind tasting setting.
Since its creation in 2000, the Prix d’Excellence du Concours Général Agricole has been awarded to the producer who has received the best results in his or her product category during the last three editions of the competition. This prestigious award certifies the consistency of the winner’s excellence and attests to the mastery of know-how. It is one of the most coveted official recognitions.
